This spring, the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society is offering students completing a cookery qualification in Scotland the opportunity to win a once in a lifetime experience, working with Chef of the Year 2016, Tristan Farmer, at his restaurant Marina Social in the Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai.
The competition runs alongside the 2017 World Angus Forum and aims to challenge students to devise a main course which features Aberdeen-Angus Scotch Beef PGI as the main ingredient.
Students must submit their entry with details of their dish accompanied by a signature of their mentor/assessor to the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society by Friday 21st April 2017 with the chance of getting through to a live cook off.
World Angus Forum 2017 co-ordinator Hazel Baxter explains: "Throughout the world, Aberdeen-Angus beef is recognised and revered as a quality product, known for its tenderness and depth of flavour. This competition will allow entrants to showcase the quality of the beef whilst demonstrating their flair, imagination and ingenuity".
The top ten entrants will be invited to a Cook Off at Braehead Foods on Tuesday 16th May, where they will be required to cook and serve their designed dish alongside creating two Aberdeen-Angus beef-based canapes from a box of mystery ingredients.
Three finalists will have the opportunity to have their canapes served at the World Angus Forum's Gala Dinner at the National Museum of Scotland on Monday 26th June.
The two runners up will each win a week's placement in a Michelin starred restaurant in Scotland. "These are experiences which could be career shaping for the successful students, giving them the chance to see some of the best chefs in the world in action in their own kitchens and to be involved in cooking food to the highest level," explains Baxter.
The competition invites all cookery students, whether in-school or vocational, to enter and showcase their culinary skills and imagination with the support of Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society.
Entries close on Friday 21st April 2017.
