Summer has officially arrived (for a few days at least) with temperatures soaring to the late 20's even in Scotland, so what better time to kick off our Chef’s Summer Selection, this month by Chef Sales Manager Warren Lawson.
‘Top of my list for summer is the delicious range of ice cream from Arran Dairies. Available in over 30 flavours in 4.5 litre napolis, as well as 750ml tubs (x6) and an impulse range of 120ml tubs (x 24), it’s the perfect accompaniment for any dessert. Arran Ice Cream have also just launched their new vegan range which includes Mango, Chocolate and Strawberry Vegan Ice Creams which are now all stock lines at Braehead Foods.
If you’re looking for any Point of Sale items or freezers then get in touch with the Arran team at info@arranicecream.co.uk.
We’ve added a new range of jams and honeys from Heather Hills Farm in Perthshire. A lovely Scottish product, Braehead foods recently visited Heather Hills farms to see the whole process in action. The jam is produced on site from the fruit that is pollenated by their own bees that they harvest their beautiful blossom honey from, and the freshness of the product is reflected in the taste. They are available in 3kg food service tubs and our sales reps are happy to pop in and give you a taste; perfect for afternoon tea scones.
A new range which is a personal favourite is the cakes and traybakes from Peck & Strong. They handmake a brilliant range of traybakes and cakes, from nutty and fruity flapjacks to gooey chocolate fudge cakes.
Another premium Scottish product that I have been really impressed with is Brigston Hotdogs from Dumfries and Galloway. Claire and Euan who own and run the company recently visited Braehead Foods to cook up some of their delicious Hot Dogs (you may have seen their food truck at festivals). They make handmade smoked hot dogs made from Scottish Farm Assured beef and pork and they really are a cut above the traditional hot dog.
Last, but by no means least is the cheekily named Fat cow and Minger cheeses form Highland Fine Cheese. The Fat Cow is a semi hard, washed rind cheese with a delicate sweet flavour and smooth texture and The Minger has a strong washed rind aroma with a soft fresh creamy centre. Both unique and Scottish which is why we love them. Perfect addition to a cheese board along with some Arran chutney and Miller biscuits.
